Automotive EMC Testing

Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Pre-Compliance Testing for the Automotive Industry

We perform EMC pre-compliance testing to help our automotive customers identify potential EMC issues. We do this in a cost effective way by focusing on risk areas and quickly fixing issues that we find during electromagnetic compatibility testing. It takes less time and costs less than a traditional compliance test phase. We help our automotive industry customers save time and money by getting their electronics ready for DV (design validation) and PV (product validation) with our up-front design & test process.

Automotive EMC has some unique challenges since quality, cost, reliability, weight and size are all major concerns. Each EMC solution can have a dramatic impact in program launch cost and timing and issues are best dealt with as early in product development as possible. While component level EMC testing aims to identify issues prior to vehicle integration, there can be surprises due to coupling, packaging, shared power distribution, cross talk and grounding among other integration issues. We have a vast amount of experience in this space which allows us to help anticipate these issues in our design recommendations and pre-compliance test plans.

Here are some key facts about our EMC pre-compliance testing process:

1.     We discover automotive, system and vehicle integration EMC issues quickly

2.     We find the root cause by understanding the physics and fix electromagnetic compatibility issues within the same EMC test phase

3.     We perform over-testing to ensure sufficient design margin and confirm improvements

4.     Our automotive customers move forward confidently into their EMC compliance test phase

By focusing on the risk areas and performing automotive EMC testing in a shorter time-frame we often save at least one product design iteration.  As EMC issues are identified we have a full line-up of EMC troubleshooting tools to locate the source of the failure.  In addition to our EMC tools we have a large number of component kits in house to prototype solutions and retest.
