EMC simulation software has experienced rapid advances. The tools available today allow the direct import of CAD and PCB layout from most design environments, improving accuracy and reducing model setup time. We use simulation to help customers catch potential EMC performance issues and to optimize the mechanical and electrical designs before committing to physical assemblies.
We model and optimize noise sources, shielding effectiveness, sensitivity of input circuits, structural and board resonances and signal/power integrity. We use a variety of tools but our two primary tools are Hyperlynx by Mentor Graphics and CST Studio Suite by CST. Component models such as IBIS, S-parameter and R-L-C are used to increase accuracy of simulation results. We can scale our computing power to match the difficulty of the modeling challenge from very small high-density designs to large and complex structures.
We perform analysis in 2D and full-wave 3D using a number of unique solvers along with co-simulation to combine several environments and aspects of the EMC problem. For example, we can simulate a clock source on a PCB and attach a wire harness as it is configured in a test or vehicle environment and evaluate the relative level of radiated emissions.

We recently performed a signal integrity and EMC analysis on a consumer electronic product for home security. The device was fitted with several different wireless RF and wired high-speed interfaces. It utilized a high-speed microcontroller having a DDR3 memory bus on a 6 layer PCB.
